Abstract

The susceptibility of 69 clinical isolates of Clostridium difficile from the Minneapolis Veterans Administration Medical Center and 29 C. difficile strains from other hospitals to efrotomycin, ciprofloxacin, and six other antimicrobials was tested in vitro by agar dilution. Ciprofloxin (MIC 50 and MIC 90 = 8 mcg/ml) was only moderately active whereas efrotomycin (MIC 50 = 0.125, MIC 90 = 0.25 mcg/ml) was highly active against C. difficile .
