Abstract

The University Hospital Gent is a tertiary care hospital with 1054 beds. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the in vitro susceptibility of clinically significant Gramnegative isolates from patients, hospitalized in critical care departments, toward different extended spectrum b-lactam antibiotics [cefepime (FEP), ceftazidime (CAZ), cefpirome (CPO), piperacillintazobactam (TZP), ticarcillin-clavulanic acid (TCA), and amoxicillin-clavulanic acid (AUG)] as a means to determine the place of the new antibiotics in the hospital formulary.
