Abstract

Sal E, Stemler J, Salmanton-García J, et al. Invasive Trichoderma spp. infections: clinical presentation and outcome of cases from the literature and the FungiScope® registry [manuscript published online ahead of print 5 August 2022]. J Antimicrob Chemother. https://doi.org/10.1093/jac/dkac235. PMID: 35929089. Sal and colleagues examined 50 cases (46 proven and 4 probable) of invasive infections due to Trichoderma spp. reported in the literature and from Fungiscope, a global registry of invasive fungal infections. The median age of the patients was 45 years (range: 3–82 years) and 64% were male. Nineteen (38%) had a hematologic malignancy and 10 (20%) were undergoing chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. Additional predisposing factors included corticosteroid therapy in 19 (38%), neutropenia in 14 (28%), chemotherapy in 13 (26%), other immunosuppressive therapy in 12 (24%), and broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy in 11 (22%). Ten patients (20%) were receiving antifungal prophylaxis (fluconazole in 6) at the time of diagnosis.
