Abstract

• The FeCuNiMoTi and FeCuNiMoTiC cable-type welding wires (CWWs) are produced. • The FeCuNiMoTiC CWW adds a carbon fiber on the basis of the FeCuNiMoTi CWW. • The FeCuNiMoTiC CWW is used to prepare the carbide reinforced HEA coatings in situ synthesis. • Both coatings are comprised of BCC (major phase) and FCC (minor phase). • The carbide reinforced HEA coatings have higher hardness and better wear properties. The Fe-Cu-Ni-Mo-Ti high entropy alloy (HEA) coating and its in situ synthesis carbide reinforced HEA coating were prepared via GTAW cladding using the FeCuNiMoTi and FeCuNiMoTiC cable-type welding wires. Both coatings are comprised of BCC (major phase) and FCC (minor phase). Due to the addition of carbon fiber, the carbide reinforced phase formed in situ in the Fe-Cu-Ni-Mo-Ti-C HEA coating. This greatly enhances the hardness of the coating and improves the wear resistance of the coating.
