Abstract

A simple, low-cost, mechanical vacuum-filtering system for collecting suspended stream sediment has been developed. The system is comprised of a polypropylene hand pump, a polypropylene suction nozzle funnel, and a two-liter Erlenmeyer polypropylene flask. The system is light in weight and can be used effectively in inaccessible areas to collect suspended matter from streams for geochemical exploration, for sediment mass-balance and chemical mass-balance investigations, for provenance studies (via mineralogy), and for environmental geochemical research.
