Abstract

It can be concluded from the present investigation that the high stress near the crack tip can be relaxed by a slip of dislocations in TiAl or Ti 3Al lamellae when crack grows along the lamellar TiAl/Ti 3Al phase boundary, hence, crack that propagated in the lamellar TiAl/Ti 3Al structure is ductile rather than brittle. The ductile crack propagation in the lamellar structure plays a significant role in improving the ductility of the two-phase TiAl based alloys.
