Abstract

Fretting displacements of a shrink-fitted PMMA shaft subjected to rotating bending by a newly produced bending fretting device are observed and measured in situ, which are also analyzed by numerical simulations. The results show that the fretting mode of the shrink-fitted shaft is a kind of composite tangential fretting combining both axial and transverse motions and the relative sliding trajectory is approximately in a spindle shape. Besides, the fretting could be transitional between the partial slip and gross slip and the sliding velocity is also continuously varied.
