Abstract
Hydraulically transported mine backfill moves from the surface to stope through a pipeline system, creating significant wear in some mines and minimal wear in others. In this study, wear rate measurements are performed using an ultrasonic thickness gauge over several years on the pipelines of backfill distribution systems in four Canadian mines. There are significant differences in the amount of wear each mine exhibits, and some trends are identified. This work highlights the need for predictive wear rate models in mine backfill distribution systems.
