Abstract

In this work, a novel electrochemical sensing platform was designed based on carbon cloth-supported polypyrrole-platinum nanosheets (Pt-PPy-CC) for detection of ammonia–nitrogen in water. The Pt-PPy-CC electrode was synthesized by growing PPy and Pt nanosheets on CC via electrochemical deposition and exhibited great electrocatalytic activity for oxidation reaction of ammonia, further showed great detection ability for ammonia–nitrogen with high sensitivity of 6.67 µA µM−1 and low detection limit of 0.24 µM (sensitivity/noise = 3; S/N = 3). The electrochemical behavior of the sensing platform could be ascribed to the catalytic activity of Pt nanosheets, self-supported structure of electrode and high-quality Ohmic contact between p-type PPy and Pt. This study provided a new strategy to fabricate electrochemical sensor for ammonia–nitrogen.
