Abstract

A square wave voltammetric method has been applied to monitor the concentration of oxygen ions (O2−) during electrochemical reduction of uranium oxide in molten Li2O-LiCl at 650°C. The in-situ determination of O2− concentration is based on the relation between the O2− concentration and the peak current density, which was determined beforehand by the square wave voltammetry method at the various Li2O concentrations. During the electrochemical reduction of uranium oxide, the in-situ measurements of the O2− concentrations done using square wave voltammetry showed good agreement with the results obtained from the acid titration method.
