Abstract
Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) is a metal additive manufacturing technique in which repeatability is considered as a major concern in quality results. Acoustic sensing is one of the methods that can be used to detect the variabilities in the process conditions. In this study, an optical microphone is used to monitor the LPBF process. Inconel 718 powder is processed with different input energy levels for the experimental work. Analyses show a strong correlation between the acoustic signals and the process parameters. Certain process flaws can be assessed and the overall quality can be evaluated using the proposed methodology.
