Abstract
During the past few years, the price of solid-state digital memory has dropped considerably, while storage capacity has increased. As a result, it is now possible to take thousands of high-resolution pictures with a digital camera or carry around hundreds of hours of music or podcasts. Such advances in digital storage mean that a portable personal digital archive of emails, photographs, recordings of phone conversations, GPS locations, is technically possible. Furthermore, in the not-too-distant future, prosthetic memories, which could help patients with memory impairments, might become a reality.
