Abstract
The article "In Search of the Land of the Fathers" discusses strategies used by German-speaking authors of the post-Shoah era to examine their East European roots and their attempts to reconstruct an Ashkenazic homeland by traveling to their parents' home countries. The films and prose narratives of the authors under discussion reveal the desire and ultimately the failure to identify themselves through European history and the destroyed Ashkenazic culture.
