Abstract

The article discusses technologies used by marine scientists to locate, map and excavate shipwreck sites. Topics include explorer Phillip Short's use of a computerized breathing system called a rebreather to explore a wreck near the Greek island Antikythera, diver Edward O'Brien of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's use of a metallic Exosuit that sustains surface air pressure and eliminates the need for slow ascent, and the use of autonomous underwater vehicles to map sea floor regions.
