Abstract
We would like to thank Endersby et al. for sharing their experience with the PENG block for pain related to hip surgery and the risk of associated motor blockade.1,2 The authors of the PENG block claim that it anaesthetizes the hip articular branches from both the femoral, obturator and accessory obturator nerves without motor blockade.3,4 Unfortunately, no high-quality prospective blinded randomized studies have been published to back this claim. The evidence base is a plethora of lower quality case reports and letters, trying to assess the clinical effect, spread of injectate and frequency of motor blockade of the PENG block.
