Abstract

It is with interest that we read the comments made by Drs. Godinez and Gombos regarding a permanent breast seed implant using stranded Pd-103 radioactive seeds for select early-stage breast cancer patients (1, 2). Currently we have treated 55 patients in a Phase I/II clinical trial at the Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre using this technique (3). With regard to radiation safety, a separate study is nearing completion where we have given radiation badges to the family members (both spouses and nonspouses) of implanted patients.
