Abstract
Article In reply to a review article “Review of potentials and limitations of indirect approaches for estimating reference limits/intervals of quantitative procedures in laboratory medicine” was published on February 1, 2022 in the journal Journal of Laboratory Medicine (volume 46, issue 1).
Highlights
To the Editor, Recently, we had a chance to read the review article that was published in your journal titled “Review of potentials and limitations of indirect approaches for estimating reference limits/intervals of quantitative procedures in laboratory medicine” [1] that prompted us to ask a few important questions with respect to the criticism of our well established work and possible undisclosed conflict of interest that may influenced author’s judgement of our indirect estimation of reference intervals (RI) approach
That reviewed and recommended indirect RI estimation methods for the use in clinical laboratories [2] and included a positive review of our modified Hoffmann method among others recommended for practical use
In contrast to the IFCC paper, this new article [1] seemingly accuses us of making false claims in our published works where the authors misrepresent the facts, and appear to misunderstand how the modified Hoffmann method operates in our practice
Summary
To the Editor, Recently, we had a chance to read the review article that was published in your journal titled “Review of potentials and limitations of indirect approaches for estimating reference limits/intervals of quantitative procedures in laboratory medicine” [1] that prompted us to ask a few important questions with respect to the criticism of our well established work and possible undisclosed conflict of interest that may influenced author’s judgement of our indirect estimation of reference intervals (RI) approach. In our opinion, this paper is not representative of a true “Review” when there is a promotion of author’s work on development and distribution of their Reference Limit Estimator program at the expense of work conducted by others in this arena (which may violate your journal’s conflict of interest policies).
