Abstract

The medical diagnostic problems created by Ultra-Pampers gel matrix continues. Since the publication of our letter to the editor concerning "vaginal beads" (pediatrics 1988;81:332) due to Ultra-Pampers' gel matrix, many physicians have called on written to me about similar diagnostic dilemmas. In most cases, the parents could not recall using torn diapers. Although this gel material may not be harmful to the child, the subsequent medical evaluation to determine the cause of these "beads" or "fictious crystals" can be painful to the child and expensive for the parents.
