Abstract

On a trip through the Swiss countryside during the early 1970s, a Swiss writer encounters an elderly man of vulgar appearance and language in a pub. Apparently an inmate of the nearby asylum of Waldau, this man fascinates the writer in a very particular way. The old man seems to bear an uncanny resemblance to someone else. Following this brief encounter, the writer cannot rid himself of his initial feeling of resonance until one day he is able to solve the riddle.
