Abstract
To be an old woman and to claim full sexual expression means one may be seen as undignified, sick, depraved—or as being a rare exception. This oppression results in our hiding one part of ourselves (our sexual self) from the rest of us, and the toll in life energy is great for many older women who repress their sexual thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Gerontologists continue to remind us that sex and intimacy needs are of greater concern to elderly people than many of us acknowledge, and that aging women are more likely than aging men to suffer from intimacy deprivation.
