Abstract

In my experience, having talked to successful prescribing students and evaluating their learning experience, one of the most valuable components of the non-medical prescribing course is the 12 days of learning in practice. This is the time when nurses can step aside from their normal working role and take time to observe and reflect with their medical and nursing colleagues on prescribing issues and decision making in the practice setting. This experience forms the all-important link between theory and practice, and without it the course would be incomplete.
