Abstract

EVIDENCE-BASED ANSWER No. In patients with new-onset type 2 diabetes and an hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C) <7%, higher whole and fresh fruit consumption does not worsen short-term (12 weeks) glycemic control (SOR: C, single RCT of disease-oriented outcomes). Higher consumption (2 servings per day) of low-calorie whole fruits may improve glycemic control in patients with an HbA1C of 8% (SOR: C, single RCT of disease-oriented outcomes).
