Abstract

Evidence-Based Answer Chronic daily use (≥3 months) of polyethylene glycol (PEG) does not appear to cause major adverse effects or laboratory abnormalities in children (SOR: A, systematic review of RCTs) or adults (SOR: B, single RCT). Minor gastrointestinal side effects such as transient diarrhea, flatus, and abdominal distention were reported, but were not consistently different from comparators (SOR: B, RCTs with inconsistent results).
