Abstract

This paper presents a theoretical framework for analyzing the relationship of family and aesthetics-the pursuit and love of beauty. Three views of aesthetics in the family context are discussed. First the aesthetics of family policy making and problem solving is reviewed. Models proposed by Kerr (1978) and Ackoff (1978) are used in the analysis. Second, aesthetic sensibilities in enhancing the family environment are presented. Third, the aesthetic in the simple existence and form of the family is suggested as a new way of viewing family relations. Implications for family life professionals are drawn.
