Abstract

This memorial column pays tribute to Francis W. “Monty” Montanari, a member of AWWA since 1953. Montanari's long and distinguished career in public service and the international community began in 1946 as one of a group of U.S. engineers who worked throughout Latin America with the Institute of Inter‐American Affairs on programs in public health, sanitary engineering, and environmental improvement. The memorial article traces his career in public service, along with his service to AWWA as International Committee Secretary, and the publications he co‐wrote that have had lasting influence in the international water community.
