Abstract

Dr. Robert Hodgson Heptinstall (“Heppy”) was born in Keswick, England, in 1920. He graduated from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School in London and began his distinguished career in the Royal Army Corps in World War II, serving in Southeast Asia. Following the war, he went back to his old hospital, Charing Cross, and told them that he did not wish to continue with training in surgery. They did not approve of his new focus on pathology, so he went to St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, where he did his training in pathology, and was appointed to the faculty there.
