Abstract

In December 2015, Mitsuo Sakai, Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo (UT), passed away at the age of 94. He spent most of his career at the Institute for Nuclear Study (INS), UT, where he took a pivotal role in establishing a foundation for the modern nuclear physics research in Japan.
