Abstract

The unsymmetrically double clamped Cope system 2 ( meso) unexpectedly formed from 12a and ethane dithiol, undergoes rearrangement despite the conformational fixation by the bridges. The constitution of 2 ( meso) is proven by an X-ray analysis. The stereochemistry of the rearrangements of 2 and 3 differs from that of the unbridged Cope systems 9, the Cope rearrangement of which was also studied.
