Abstract

This is primarily a source book of the consultation process, encompassing three expert roundtables, towards the elaboration of guidelines on international protection. The first of these roundtables, held in Arusha in 2011, resulted in the publication of the Summary Conclusions of the Expert Meeting on Complementarities between International Refugee Law, International Criminal Law and International Human Rights Law. The second was held in Cape Town in 2012 and the third in Montevideo in 2013. The book contains two appendices, one setting out the Cape Town roundtable’s Summary Conclusions on International Protection of Persons Fleeing Armed Conflict and Other Situations of Violence. Five of the studies commissioned for this roundtable are reincarnated as chapters in the book, albeit refined and updated – to the end of 2015 seemingly. The other appendix gives the text of the Montevideo roundtable, Summary Conclusions on the Interpretation of the Extended Refugee Definition in the 1984 Cartagena Declaration.
