Abstract
The adsorption of tetracycline (TC) from aqueous solutions onto Zn-Al mixed oxides has been studied by batch experiment. A partial conversion of mixed oxides into the layered double hydroxides (LDH) has been revealed simultaneously with TC adsorption. The ligand-promoted dissolution is occurring during TC adsorption by mixed oxides. It has been found that TC:Al3+ complexes with ratio 2:1 and 1:1 have been formed in solution after contact of TC with mixed oxides. Zn-Al LDHs were prepared by coprecipitation method and were used for comparative study of TC adsorption from aqueous solutions. Zn-Al mixed oxides have a higher TC adsorption capacity in comparison with that of Zn-Al LDH. The experimental results were analyzed within mathematical models for equilibrium sorption on solid surfaces.
