Abstract

Summary The numerous types of psychotherapy available today make it necessary first of all to define our work and to differentiate it from other forms of group therapy. The reasons for referral to this particular type of therapy are described and the relational and psychodynamic techniques are presented, including some of the difficulties one meets in practice. The lack of empirical research in this field means that we will also be faced with the challenge of studying group processes and their changes in more detail. One of the challenging issues is to find a way of bringing psychodynamic concepts of group therapy into the practice of psychotherapeutic methods designed for specific topics and disorders.
