Abstract

Andy Owen and Loopinder Sood1 question OCTET's conclusion1 that community treatment orders (CTOs) do not achieve their primary purpose of reducing repeat admissions of patients with psychosis. OCTET's results have proved a disappointment to those who had high hopes for the introduction of CTOs and that includes us, the research team. A vigorous critical response has helped us to clarify several key issues that were inevitably condensed in the Lancet Article.2,3 However, the results are robust and the conclusions justified.
