Abstract

We knew there was a reason we stayed at our computer every summer while everyone else went to the beach. Once again, the federal government proves it has a great sense of timing. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendation that all adults be screened for illicit drug use came out Aug. 13 (see p. 5), with a comment period that closes Sept. 9 — right after Labor Day. And the 42 CFR Part 2 rulemaking, which ADAW heard about thanks to a vigilant source — the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration never discussed it — was due out last week (see ADAW, July 29). It wasn't out by press time, but don't worry — we'll be here next week, too. The other favorite time for controversial releases: right before Christmas, with a comment period ending right after New Year's. We're ready.
