Abstract

In a public recognition of death by suicide, Mental Health America of Georgia's Executive Director Abdul Henderson released the following statement Jan. 15 on the passing of Jeff Parker, CEO and manager of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA): “Jeff Parker was a leader in our community that dedicated his life's work to building better transportation systems. On behalf of Mental Health America of Georgia, we send our deepest condolences to his family, and we mourn a true leader and innovator.” He added, “To learn that Jeff's cause of death was by suicide breaks my heart. We have to keep working to help people in crisis.” He then referred those who may be experiencing a crisis themselves to the Georgia Crisis & Access Line, available toll free, 24/7. MARTA Board of Directors Chairwomen Rita Scott in her statement on the passing of Parker also referred readers to Georgia's crisis line.
