Abstract

Workers' compensation in New Jersey could soon cover medical marijuana, according to NJ Advance Media. The state Assembly Appropriations Committee advanced a bill that requires both workers' compensation and auto insurance benefits to cover medical marijuana, if the person is enrolled in the state's medical marijuana program. In 33 states, including New Jersey, marijuana is legal for medical use, but federally it is still illegal. Patients have had to pay out of pocket, because insurance companies say that if they covered it, they would be violating federal law. Insurance companies oppose the proposal.
