Abstract

SUMMARY. This article draws on NFER/ESRC funded research aimed at reviewing the arrangements for the education of children in care. The study followed up issues raised by Sonia Jackson (see CHILDREN & SOCIETY, 2:4) and others who were concerned that the educational experiences of children in care were often poor and that one of the main causes was the lack of coordinated approach by the social services, education departments and other agencies. The paper outlines current arrangements, explores the issues and recommends more research and new policies and practices
