Abstract
The London Biotechnology Network has honored two scientists for their ability to move seamlessly between academia and biotech industry. Ken Powell, Chief Executive of Arrow Therapeutics, was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year award, with Peter Shepherd receiving the Young Entrepreneur Award. Powell has a long history of work in the biotech arena. As the former head of biology at the Wellcome Foundation (now part of Glaxo SmithKline) and deputy director of the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research in London, Powell has also been involved in the development of four biotech start-ups. Shepherd, cofounder of Xcellsyz, is also Professor of Biochemistry at University College London. The London Biotechnology Network is a regional support organization supported by the science and business communities in London that provides guidance on the development and growth of biotechnology in London.
