Abstract

Buell T. Jannuzi has been named to a five-year term as the director of Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tucson, Arizona. Jannuzi, who had been acting director since fall 2005, succeeds Richard Green, who left after an eight-year stint to become director of the Large Binocular Telescope Observatory near Safford, Arizona. In his new post, Jannuzi said, he plans to implement improvements to the observatory that were recommended by NSF. He also intends to boost the observatory's relationship with the Tohono O'odham Nation, from whom NSF leases the observatory site. Jannuzi joined the National Optical Astronomy Observatory in Tucson in 1995.© 2007 American Institute of Physics.
