Satellite improves space weather forecasts Real‐time data from NASA's Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) satellite became part of the daily U.S space weather forecast operations in late January, providing forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Space Environment Center with an important tool for improving forecasts and warnings of solar storms.Forecasters with NOAA and the U.S. Air Force—the agencies that, along with NASA, are coordinating the project—are incorp orating the ACE data into operations, allowing the agencies to predict and issue 1‐hour geomagnetic storm alerts with almost 100% accuracy, they say.
