Abstract
The authors consider the impurity-impurity interaction in mixed-valence solids by including a transfer integral term in the periodic Anderson model. They use a simple expression for the transfer integral based on a double-well potential concept and obtain an expression for the magnetic susceptibility ( chi ) in the mixed-valence regime. They also explain for the first time the low-temperature rise of magnetic susceptibility of alpha -Ce, which has been hitherto considered as being due to extrinsic causes such as a band effect.
