Abstract

We have performed detailed magnetic susceptibility measurements and obtained the temperature vs concentration phase diagram of doped CuGeO 3 . First-order phase transitions between dimerized AF (D-AF) and uniform AF (U-AF)phases were observed in Mg-, Zn-(S = 0) and Ni(S = 1)-doped CuGeO 3 , which means that the present phase transition is universal in Cu 1 - x M x GeO 3 . The temperature vs concentration phase diagram was obtained also in CuGe 1 - y Si y O 3 and the phase transition is of the second order. This is the first experimental result which shows the qualitative difference between site-doping effect and bond-doping effect in CuGeO 3 .
