Abstract

Using the tight-binding model, we investigate the influence of a single-impurity on the persistent charge current in one-dimensional mesoscopic rings threaded by a magnetic flux. We use a parameter to describe the impurity scattering, and obtain the ground state energy and the persistent current. In particular, we find that there may be a spontaneous Aharonov-Bohm effect due to the impurity in this system regardless of the number of electrons.
