Abstract

A technique for the trace impurity analysis of alkali halides has been developed using a radio-frequency spark source mass spectrograph. A large ratio between the singly charged metal ions to halide ions is observed due to their different ionic nature in the solid, the ionization process, or both. Under these conditions alkali and halogen impurities must be treated separately to obtain quantitative analysis.
