Abstract

CME Educational Objectives 1. Recognize the threat for impulsivity, aggression and suicide in patients with schizophrenia. 2. Assess the risk for aggressive and suicidal behaviors in patients with schizophrenia with detailed anamnestic assessment and self-report questionnaires or specific psychometric instruments. 3. Incorporate targeted and evidence-based therapies into treatment of patients with schizophrenia. The potential of impulsivity/aggression in subjects with schizophrenia may be investigated with a detailed anamnestic assessment, and carefully measured using self-report questionnaires or specific psychometric instruments. Clinicians not only have to pay particular attention to the assessment but also to the management of patients with schizophrenia to prevent suicide and social impairment related to impulsivity/aggression. Both short-term and long-term risk of impulsivity/aggression may be managed using behavioral strategies and engaging patients in a therapeutic alliance.
