Abstract

ABSTRACT This article aims to explore interaction antecedents in public sector innovation processes attempting to implement and sustain eHealth solutions through co-creative planning and extensive training. Whilst there is a growing body of literature on innovation antecedents, there is an incomplete understanding of interaction-related antecedents. Our multiple case study explores innovation processes with varying complexity and success in three healthcare organizations in Denmark and Norway. From a symbolic interactionist perspective, the results reveal that some interaction barriers are frontstage performance, idealization and audience segregation. Mediators and service specialists may overcome these barriers and enhance interaction between collaborating actors.
