Abstract

This research aims to find out the effectiveness of Dialogue Journal in improving writing skill s of grade eleventh students of SMA Katolik Santo Andreas Palu. The research er used quasi experimental research design. The sample was selected using cluster sampling technique and t wo classes were chosen; they are class XI IPA I as the experimental group and XI IPS I as the control group. The number of sample was 50 students. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test. The result showe s that mean score of the experimental group increased from 54.4 on the pre - test to 79.3 o n the post-test . Mean while , mean score of the control group increased from 46.7 on the pre-test to 58.9 on the post-test . By using 0.05 significance level with 48 degree of freedom , it was found that the value of t - counted (3.24) was higher than the value of t - table (2.01). It means that the research hypothesis is accepted. In other word s , the use of Dialogue Journal is effective to improve writing skill s of grade XI students of SMA Katolik Santo Andreas Palu.
