Abstract

Management scholars and practitioners have, for some time, been interested in how to improve employee's work and family lives. Traditionally, this research has focused on formal human resources policies and programs, such as flexible work arrangements. Recent research has shown that informal supports, such as family- supportive supervisor behavior (FSSB), are more strongly related to work-family outcomes. The purpose of this symposium is to bring together some of the leading scholars in this area to present new research advancements about the antecedents, outcomes, and explanatory mechanisms whereby FSSB is related to improving lives.
