Abstract

With purpose of improving wear and corrosion resistance of U71Mn railroad switch, Fe based Cr–V coating was designed and in-situ fabricated on the surface of U71Mn rail steel using laser alloying technology. The phase constituents, effect of V content on the grain size, the microstructure, wear and corrosion resistance were investigated. Grain size refinement effect was observed due to more content of V content in the raw powder. The microhardness and wear resistance of the obtained Fe based Cr–V coatings presented a positive correlation with the content of V addition. The coating with more content of V addition presented a nobler Ecorr and a lower passivation current density icorr, indicating a more excellent corrosion resistance performance.
