Abstract

The effect of thermocyclic treatment (TCT) parameters exerted on the austenite grain size and the mechanical properties of cast medium-carbon steel has been studied. The advantages of TCT in comparison with normalization are shown, since after the latter the viscoplastic properties of steel can become worse owing to the formation of a dendritie-oriented ferrite-pearlitic structure under the action of Si and Mn microliquation segregations. Optimal TCT parameters for the casts of steel 45L are found, which provide a high level both for strength and for plastic properties, as well as for impact strength.
