Abstract

Summary During a laboratory API thickening-time test of a cement slurry, temperature and pressure are simulated according to downhole conditions. However, the shear rate applied to a slurry in the API test generally differs considerably from the shear rate in actual field cementations. This leads to inaccurate prediction of slurry setting time. Cement setting times should be determined in a laboratory test under realistic conditions of temperature, pressure, and shear.
